All,
I am writing to thank each of you for your contribution towards
Northside CPOP efforts over the past year. This Tuesday, the
group was awarded second place at the Keep Cincinnati Beautiful
awards program for best on-going project. With this award, we
received a $250 grant for additional work in the community.
Combined with the two group awards received by the group at the
CPOP awards banquet late last month, we now have $850 in grant
money to be used for projects of our choosing.
Some of you have attended meetings to contribute ideas and
neighborhood input, some have participated in cleanups, some have
went door to door, some have written grants or nominations for
awards, others have provided counseling or support. All were
critical to any success we've had. Whereas we've been focused on
reviving Fergus St. and will continue to be, it is our hope that
our learnings from this project will be more broadly applicable
across the neighborhood and that all will benefit from any success
we have. Anyonewho has reviewed our progress cites our group
efforts as a model for others to follow.
There are many areas of need throughout the neighborhood beyond
Fergus. It is my hope that the proposed surveillance cameras in
residential areas that have been sponsored by CPOP and the NBA
will provide some much needed relief in other parts of the
neighborhood. Tonight at our meeting, we worked through a
proposition to provide community funding for 10 cameras located
throughout the residential areas of the neighborhood. I'll
provide more information on this at a later time but it represents
our first effort to branch out to more actively support a wider
segment of the neighborhood. Whereas I've been extremely
protective of remaining focused and not spreading our sparse
resources too thin, I believe we can steer this particular effort
with a minimum of work beyond that which we would already be
putting towards our target area. For one, I'm counting on the
support of others like Blockwatch 45223 as we cover more of their
areas of interest.
Again, thanks for all of your contributions and support and a
particular thanks to our neighborhood partners. It's been a
privilege working with each of you. I just don't know where else
you can go in the city and find anyone any more committed to
improving a community.
Dave
