Reminder & Agenda Message-ID: <29288924.1132242925220.JavaMail.root@webmail9> Just a reminder that we have a CPOP Mtg at 6pm tonight For those of you who aren't aware, Stefanie nomimated our cleanup project on Fergus for the Keep Cincinnati Beautiful best on-going project award. We won 2nd place & received $250 in cash funding to bring our award total up to $850. Thanks Stef! We received an e-mail from Eric Franz notifying us of a coordination meeting for installation of neighborhood surveillance cameras. Therefore, tonight's primary focus will be on solidfying funding ideas for residential cameras and getting these going. The idea I would like to work from is selling landlords in the effected areas on the idea of cross charging their tennants, i.e. for each month's rent you pay a $5 surcharge fee for improved area safety. Most cameras will go in areas highly populated with rental property (coincidence?). This becomes a win-win because they are passing the cost of improved safety to their tennants, their tennants are benefitting by better living conditions, and the landlords are benefitting by increasing property values and or being able to raise rents because of improved living conditions. My goal would be to get as many landlords and business owners from these areas as possible to commit to a 1 year minimum subscription which would include keeping them in the information loop and revisiting the effectiveness with them at the end of the year. I would like to tear apart and refine this idea and/or entertain others to come to something we can begin taking action on. I would guess we need to have our funding solidified by next spring. Hope to see you there. Sidewinder is just south of Chase on the west side of Hamilton. 4181 Hamilton Ave, Cincinnati, 45223 - (513) 542-8321 Dave From davetori at fuse.net Thu Nov 17 23:38:58 2005 From: davetori at fuse.net (Dave & Tori) Date: Thu, 17 Nov 2005 23:38:58 -0500 Subject: [Northside CPOP] Northside CPOP Thanks You! Message-ID: All, I am writing to thank each of you for your contribution towards Northside CPOP efforts over the past year. This Tuesday, the group was awarded second place at the Keep Cincinnati Beautiful awards program for best on-going project. With this award, we received a $250 grant for additional work in the community. Combined with the two group awards received by the group at the CPOP awards banquet late last month, we now have $850 in grant money to be used for projects of our choosing. Some of you have attended meetings to contribute ideas and neighborhood input, some have participated in cleanups, some have went door to door, some have written grants or nominations for awards, others have provided counseling or support. All were critical to any success we've had. Whereas we've been focused on reviving Fergus St. and will continue to be, it is our hope that our learnings from this project will be more broadly applicable across the neighborhood and that all will benefit from any success we have. Anyonewho has reviewed our progress cites our group efforts as a model for others to follow. There are many areas of need throughout the neighborhood beyond Fergus. It is my hope that the proposed surveillance cameras in residential areas that have been sponsored by CPOP and the NBA will provide some much needed relief in other parts of the neighborhood. Tonight at our meeting, we worked through a proposition to provide community funding for 10 cameras located throughout the residential areas of the neighborhood. I'll provide more information on this at a later time but it represents our first effort to branch out to more actively support a wider segment of the neighborhood. Whereas I've been extremely protective of remaining focused and not spreading our sparse resources too thin, I believe we can steer this particular effort with a minimum of work beyond that which we would already be putting towards our target area. For one, I'm counting on the support of others like Blockwatch 45223 as we cover more of their areas of interest. Again, thanks for all of your contributions and support and a particular thanks to our neighborhood partners. It's been a privilege working with each of you. I just don't know where else you can go in the city and find anyone any more committed to improving a community. Dave -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
